Lake County Man Accused of Stepping Up Thefts from Minibike to Golf Cart to ATV 4-Wheeler to Porsche Worth Over $200K

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 10:30 a.m. August 22, 2023 to a report of a theft of a 1962 Porsche, valued over $200,000.00, in Ingleside in Lake County.

While on the scene of the theft, Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies determined the suspect, Drew Nelson, 34, of the 25100 block of Monaville Road, unincorporated Lake Villa, stole numerous vehicles, before stealing the Porsche.




Preliminary investigation shows Nelson left his residence earlier in the day and stole a small minibike. He drove the minibike to a restaurant in the 500 block of Park Avenue, Fox Lake, where left the minibike and stole a golf cart, and then another golf cart. He drove the golf cart to a residence in the 28300 block of Brandenburg Road, Ingleside, where he left the golf cart and stole a four-wheeler. He rode around on the four-wheeler for a bit, before returning to the same address on Brandenburg Road, where he then left the four-wheeler and stole the Porsche.

Nelson drove the Porsche on Rand Road to Monster Powersports in Wauconda, where he left the Porsche behind the business and stole a 2023 Evolution 6-passenger specialized golf cart. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies issued a countywide regional alert, to inform area law enforcement of Nelson’s actions. After stealing the 2023 Evolution specialized golf car in Wauconda. After a brief pursuit, Nelson was apprehended by Wauconda Police Department in the parking lot of a commercial building at 1059 North Old Rand Road in Wauconda.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Nelson was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail. After reviewing the case with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, sheriff’s deputies charged Nelson with:

Theft Over $100,000.00

Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle

Wauconda Police Department also obtained charges regarding the criminal acts in their village.
