The Cook County Medical Examiners Office reported Saturday, August 5, 2023 that the water recovery incident at Lake Arlington involved the death of a 51 year-old man from Wheeling, Illinois. The manner of death was ruled a suicide caused by drowning.

Police, firefighters, divers and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 9:22 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2023 to a report that personal belongings were found near the beach and dock by the Lake Arlington Boat House, 1400 East Valley Lane in Arlington Heights. Suspecting the worst case scenario, a dive operation was activated and firefighters and divers from neighboring fire departments were requested to assist Arlington Heights Fire Department personnel to search and possibly locate a body for an underwater recovery in Lake Arlington.

Police were also searching for a male adult that was reported missing.

Three fire department divers located a body near the boat dock area just east of the boat house at about 11:15 a.m., and immediately removed the body from the water. The body was transferred to shore by about 11:30 a.m. and turned over to the custody of the Arlington Heights Police Department.

Arlington Heights Police Department is investigating that the death may have been a suicide, but are ruling out any other possibilities with a thorough investigation.

Wheeling police were also on scene assisting with the investigation as the victim was possibly a resident of Wheeling.

An airborne drone was used while divers were in the water. SONAR equipment was also on the scene.
