Connections to Care (formerly Escorted Transportation Services, NW) provides rides for seniors (60+) who can no longer drive to their medical/dental appointments. This includes doctor/dentist routine check-ups, chronic disease followup visits, labwork, x-rays, physical therapy and minor surgical procedures within 14 northwest suburbs. Passengers must be able to get in and out of a car unassisted, although they may use a cane or walker.
Volunteer drivers pick up seniors at their homes, drive them to their appointments, wait for them, and then return them to their homes. These wonderful volunteers use their time, cars and gas to help these seniors who can no longer safely drive or utilize public transportation to get to these important healthcare appointments. We do request a $15 donation per round trip ride, yet no one is ever denied a ride based upon ability to pay. With the Connections to Care service, passengers and their families have the peace of mind that they can age in place while caring for their health needs.
Would you drive to help save a life? Drive seniors in your community to their medical/dental appointments! Volunteering for Connections to Care is FLEXIBLE! YOU choose how often you would like to drive- 1x week, 1x month, 1x quarter. With our web-enabled software, you can go online and choose rides that fit your lifestyle and schedule. As a volunteer driver, you are responsible for safely transporting riders to and from their appointment. Passengers must be able to get in and out of a car unassisted, although they may use a cane or walker. Our clients are so appreciative of all of our drivers! It is truly a rewarding volunteer opportunity. More info: www.connectionstocare.org or 847-222-9227. Need a ride for yourself, call us!
The organization began as Escorted Transportation Service in 2006 when a similar program was discontinued in the community. The 15,000th ride was provided in 2013. The organization’s name change to Connections to Care occurred in 2021.
