Death Investigation After Man Found Deceased in Van at Meijer Store Parking Lot, Rolling Meadows

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Rolling Meadows responded about 6:09 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2023 to a report of a man passed out in the passenger seat of a white van at the Meijer store parking lot, 1301 Meijer Drive in Rolling Meadows.

Police and paramedics found a male deceased in the vehicle, and began a death investigation at the scene.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office, the man was 64 years-old, but no hometown information was provided. Initially there was no cause of death indicated. The Cook County Medical Examiners Office indicated the death was not heat related. The high temperature Monday was about 79°F around 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the NWS Chicago office at O’Hare International Airport.




A white Mercedes Sprinter style van was parked approximately in the middle of the overall parking lot. At one point the police opened the rear sliding door, which revealed that the van was configured as a camper or living arrangement with a wood frame and bed in the back of the van. At the scene, it appeared the man may have lost consciousness while trying to reach inside the van.
