Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 8:58 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023 to a report of a house fire in the block of 1000 North Mitchell Avenue in Arlington Heights. There was no active fire when firefighters and police officers arrived at the home on Mitchell Avenue just south of Oakton Street.

Engine 2’s crew on arrival reported nothing showing from the exterior. Interior firefighters reported heavy smoke in a second floor bedroom, but no fire. Firefighters immediately went to work to ventilate the second floor by opening windows and setting up a fan. Extra crews were returned to quarters, but two fire crews remained at the scene.

There were several police cars parked along Oakton Street and Chestnut Avenue, but there was no outside threat in the neighborhood at the 9:00 p.m. hour.
