Buffalo Grove High School Principal Jeff Wardle announced Monday, February 20, 2023, the death of a senior student at her home, writing she “passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Friday night.” The female student was discovered unresponsive just before 9:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023.

Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics responded about 8:58 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023 to a single-family home on the north side of Arlington Heights. The emergency medical response involved a full response for a cardiac arrest incident with an ambulance, rescue squad, fire engine, and battalion chief; but the first paramedics on the scene assessed that their patient was deceased at the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiners Office released Sunday that a 17 year-old female was confirmed deceased at 9:19 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023 at a residence in Arlington Heights. The manner of death was listed as pending.

Dear BGHS Students, Parents, and Guardians,

“It is with profound sadness that we share information with you about the loss of one of our students.  [NAME REDACTED], a senior, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Friday night.  The [LAST NAME REDACTED] family has been a part of the BG family for the past 10 years with older siblings.  [NAME REDACTED] was a member of our bowling team, and enjoyed our culinary and graphics arts programs at BGHS.

In addition to our grief over this loss, we are sensitive to the fact that such an event has an impact on our community of students, staff, and parents.  We will provide students with an opportunity to process their thoughts and feelings with members of our Student Services Division on Tuesday, February 21st in Student Services.

Anticipating that your child may need support in processing this sad event, we have enclosed information that may be helpful as you engage in conversations regarding [NAME REDACTED]’s passing. As the services offered by Buffalo Grove are not intended to take the place of outside counseling, we have also attached a list of community counseling agencies that provide support with grief for your information [REFERRAL LINKS REDACTED].

Our thoughts and prayers are with the [LAST NAME REDACTED] family during this difficult time.

Last summer, a 14 year-old female teen was discovered immediately after she suffered cardiac arrest at home in Arlington Heights, and survived her cardiac arrest. On Friday, July 15, 2022, the Village of Arlington Heights announced that Arlington Heights Fire Department firefighters and paramedics had recently been involved in saving the life of a 14 year-old girl who was in cardiac arrest in Arlington Heights. The Village of Arlington Heights reported that “(a)rriving crews sprang into action and were able to revive the young patient. She was transported to Northwest Community Hospital and received medical care and treatment for a previously undiagnosed heart condition.”

The two incidents both involved unexpected cardiac arrest of a teen.
