Mount Prospect Police Department arrested and charged Christopher J. Grygiel, 40 years old, of 2274 Webster Lane, Des Plaines, Illinois, with one misdemeanor count of Aggravated Assault and one misdemeanor count of Disorderly Conduct on December 28, 2022. The charges stem from an alleged attack and attempted theft that occurred after the victim walked out of the Walmart store in Mount Prospect.

On Monday, December 26th, 2022 at approximately 3:00 PM, a 15 year-old girl exited Walmart and walked along eastbound on Centennial Drive, which is located behind Mount Prospect Plaza — just north of Mount Prospect Plaza and just east of Walmart. As the juvenile was walking, she noticed an unknown adult male walking approximately 10 feet behind her. The subject rapidly approached the juvenile and reached for the bag she was carrying. The juvenile held onto her bag and ran away from the subject. Responding officers checked the area and the male subject was not located.

Through their investigation, Detectives were able to identify the subject as Christopher J. Grygiel. On December 28, 2022, Officers arrested Grygiel and transported him to the Mount Prospect Police Department Headquarters, where he was interviewed and subsequently charged. The investigation also revealed Grygiel is a Registered Sex Offender in Illinois, however no additional criminal charges, aside from Aggravated Assault and Disorderly Conduct, could be substantiated at this time. Grygiel was released from custody after posting the required $100.00 pending his upcoming court appearance on February 6, 2023 at 1:30 PM in room 101 of the 3rd District Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows.

The public is reminded that criminal charges are not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
