Police from Waukegan, and firefighters and paramedics from Waukegan Fire Department and Beach Park Fire Department responded about 2:40 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2023 to a report of a head-on crash with entrapment at Lewis Avenue and Beach Road in Waukegan at the border with Beach Park.
Upon arrival, paramedics located a dark sedan and a dark SUV involved in a head-on crash in the intersection, and determined that the driver of the sedan was deceased. Based on the severity of the incident the Waukegan Police Department Major Crash Unit (MCU) responded.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified at 5:21 a.m. and responded to the scene.
The deceased was identified as 36-year-old Malcolm Earl of Waukegan. On Tuesday, January 3, 2023, an autopsy was completed at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Autopsy results indicate that Mr. Earl died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Another crash victim was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The crash remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department MCU.
