Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Lake Forest responded about 2:22 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2022 to an activated fire alarm and a report of smoke coming from a ceiling at the Walter Payton Center — an indoor practice facility at the Halas Hall campus, 1920 North Football Drive in Lake Forest.
The first fire crew on arrival reported nothing showing from the front of the building.
Lake Forest firefighters reported by 2:29 p.m. that they were at the scene where a fully-involved furnace fire on the second floor had been extinguished. Fire command reported a sprinkler system activated. Also, a staff member extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher. The fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived.
Football practice was underway, but was moved outdoors because of the fire.
