Extrication after a high-speed crash involving two vehicles at Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights about 7:34 a.m., Sunday, October 30, 2022.

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 7:34 a.m. Sunday, October 30, 2022 to a report of a crash with injuries and entrapment at Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights.

Police, firefighters and paramedics on arrival discovered two vehicles with severe damage and a male driver in each passenger vehicle.

The driver of a white Nissan was seriously injured and needed to be extricated from the vehicle. The driver of a Nissan was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with possible life-threatening injuries.

The driver of a Toyota was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

A witness on scene stated that the driver of the Nissan was traveling about 70 to 80 MPH southbound in the northbound lanes of Arlington Heights Road when a crash occurred with the driver of a gray Toyota on the north side of the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway. Initially the position and the direction the Toyota was traveling was unknown.

The driver of the Nissan lost control of his vehicle after the severe crash impact, and skidded into the tower of an overhead railroad signal. The impact sheared off the tower at the base, and the Nissan stopped on the railroad tracks.

Metra was immediately notified by police and/or fire authorities at the scene to stop train traffic in Arlington Heights.

During rescue operations both Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway were closed in both directions near the crash scene. Northwest Highway was closed between Pine Avenue and Evergreen Avenue, and Arlington Heights Road was closed between Northwest Highway and Sigwalt Street.

Repairs by Metra were necessary at the intersection. During repairs by Metra, Arlington Heights Road has been closed between Northwest Highway and Sigwalt Street, but Northwest Highway has been open with delays as traffic on Northwest Highway has not been allowed to cross the railroad tracks at Arlington Heights Road.

Video of the scene will be available on CARDINAL NEWS on Monday morning.
