Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 7:15 p.m. Monday July 18, 2022 to Advocate Good Shephard Hospital, 450 West Route 22, unincorporated Barrington immediately following a report of a person who left the hospital during treatment. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and learned a 61-year-old female of Lake in the Hills, was being treated in the emergency department and left on foot prior to being discharged by hospital personnel. There were concerns about the person’s mental state and sheriff’s deputies immediately attempted to locate her.

While searching the immediate area, Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were joined by friends and family of the missing person. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, LCSO Canine Duke led deputies to the retention bond on the south end of the hospital property. A sheriff’s drone was deployed, and the drone pilot located the person unresponsive in the water.

At approximately 10:35 pm on Monday, July 18, 2022, the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (BCFPD) was dispatched to assist the Lake County Sheriff’s Office with a possible water rescue incident on the property of Good Shepherd Hospital. Fire personnel recovered the person and began life-saving measures, however, she was pronounced deceased a short time later.

When fire crews with water rescue capability arrived on scene, they established a unified command post. Mutual and automatic aid departments responded to the scene to conduct rescue and recovery operations. The victim was located and removed to an awaiting ambulance, and then transported to the emergency room at Good Shepherd Hospital.

Area departments assisting BCFPD on the call included Barrington Fire Department, Cary Fire Protection District, Fox River Grove Fire Protection District, Hoffman Estates Fire Department, and Wauconda Fire Department.

The scene was later relinquished to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.

The Lake Coroner’s Office responded, and an autopsy is being scheduled. Foul play does not appear to be a factor, however, the incident remains under investigation by Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives.
