Police, firefighters and paramedics responded Thursday afternoon, July 14, 2022 to a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a semi-trailer truck on I-94 WEST (northbound) on a slight curve between Deerfield Road and Duffy Lane near Deerfield.
Illinois State Police District 15 troopers were dispatched about 1:45 p.m., and firefighters and paramedics from Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District were dispatched about 1:52 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2022 to a report of a severely injured and unresponsive motorcyclist I-94 WEST Mile Marker 23.3.

Paramedics from Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District arrived on the scene immediately and discovered the motorcyclist down on the tollway in traumatic cardiac arrest. Illinois State Police troopers were administering first aid when paramedics arrived. Initially no information was provided indicating whether the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene or after transportation by paramedics to a hospital. Some motorists also stopped to help the motorcyclist before the Illinois State Police troopers arrived.
The early report prior to a full investigation by an Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Officer (CRO) indicates that the motorcyclist hit the back of a semi-trailer truck while both vehicles were northbound on I-94 WEST. A semi-trailer truck remained at the scene during the investigation of the fatal crash. There is a slight left-hand bend of the I-94 lanes where the crash occurred.
The crash initially blocked Lane 3 and Lane 4, but all lanes of I-94 WEST (northbound) were immediately blocked at Deerfield Road with all traffic diverted to the Deerfield Road exit. There was also a traffic slowdown on I-94 EAST (southbound) immediately after the crash.
I-94 WEST was re-opened during the evening rush hour Thursday.
