Illinois State Police, HELP truck crews, and firefighters and paramedics from Glenview responded about 6:02 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022 to a report of a multi-vehicle crash blocking the left three lanes of southbound I-294. The crash was located on the tollway behind the Abt Electronic property. One person involved in the crash was pronounced dead.
Illinois State Police troopers and Glenview firefighters and paramedics were first on the scene. Three lanes were blocked with eight vehicles involved in the crash. One driver was found unresponsive, and troopers removed the victim and began CPR before Glenview paramedics arrived to treat the victim. One other driver was also injured.
Fire command reported two EMS patients at the scene, but requested a third ambulance as a precaution.
A white pickup truck with a car carrier trailer was up against the median J-wall with front-end damage. A black pickup truck with minor damage was wedge between the car carrier truck and the median J-wall. The car carrier trailer was carrying three passenger vehicles.
A gray sedan with severe rear-end damage and passenger side damage, facing sideways in lanes one and two, was located near the beginning of the scene (first vehicle to the north).
A black pickup truck with rear-end damage was facing the wrong way in Lane 1.
A black large SUV with severe damage was facing sideways in lanes one and two.
A white sports car was facing sideways in lanes two and three with the severe damage, and with the front-end under the trailer of a semi-trailer truck that was in Lane 3.
A gray SUV with severe damage was facing the wrong direction in lanes three and four.
Debris covered Lane 4. All southbound lanes and both shoulders were blocked on the southbound side of I-294.
Lanes one and two and the left shoulder were blocked by emergency vehicles on the northbound side of I-294.
A Crash Re-construction Officer was assigned to the scene. All southbound lanes of I-294 EAST may be blocked for an extended period for the crash re-construction investigation.
Southbound traffic on I-294 EAST was diverted off at Willow Road.
