Arlington Heights police investigators have arrested Paul Castelli again with new charges after investigators discovered new information about his sexual assault case. The initial charges occurred in January 2022 after Arlington Heights police patrol officers found then Glenbrook High School District 225 teacher Paul Castelli in the driver’s seat of a vehicle while a minor was in the back seat crying and in a state of undress about 6:45 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2022. In January, Castelli was taken into custody and initially charged with two class 1 felonies — one count each of Criminal Sexual Assault and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault. Castelli posted bond for these charges and was released.

The new charges developed when Arlington Heights Police Department detectives were continuing the investigation of the active case, and determined that when Castelli had been assigned as the female victim’s individualized education program case manager, he began communicating with the victim through a mobile communication application. During these interactions, Castelli routinely complimented the victim’s appearance. Around September of 2021, Castelli allegedly began meeting with the victim outside of school and made physical advances towards her. Their relationship became intimate. Over the course of several months, Castelli engaged in sexual relations with the victim.

On May 25, 2022, in light of this new information, Castelli was taken into custody. Detectives, reviewed the facts of the case with prosecutors from the Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney’s Office who elected to charge Castelli with …

seven additional Class 1 Felony Counts of Criminal Sexual Assault,

one Class 1 Felony count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, and

one Class Four Felony count of Grooming.

A Bond Hearing was held today, Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Third District Cook County Courthouse, Rolling Meadows. Judge Mandeltort reviewed the charges and facts as presented. Bond was set at $210,000 (cash bond — 10% does not apply). Castelli’s next court date was scheduled for Friday, June 17, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. in room #108 at Cook County Circuit Court Rolling Meadows.

The preliminary investigation of Paul Castelli revealed he was 45-years-old and that the female victim was a minor. Police officers learned the man was a teacher who, as an educator, held a position of trust, authority or supervision over the minor student. The teacher was employed by a learning institution attended by the minor. The female victim was offered medical assistance and reunited with her family.
