Geneva Teen Killed in Metra Train Incident Near Route 25 Overpass

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Geneva responded just after 6:20 am. Tuesday May 17, 2022 to a report that a pedestrian was struck by a Metra passenger train under the Crissey Avenue (Route 25) overpass in Geneva.




A female teen was found unresponsive on the railroad tracks of the Metra Union Pacific West Line, and the teen died from her injuries. The Kane County Coroner’s Office identified the teen as Caitlin Marie Gallagher of Geneva. Geneva Police Department , Metra police, and the Kane County Coroner’s Office are investigating.

Metra Train #18 left the Geneva Metra Station about 6:07 a.m. before the 17 year-old girl was hit. Metra Train #18 was stopped at the scene under the underpass, and several Metra trains were canceled or delayed.

Normal Metra service resume for the Tuesday evening rush hour.
