Fire Damages, Destroys 3 Detached Garages Hollywood Ave, Woodlawn Ave in Des Plaines

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Des Plaines responded about 5:26 a.m. Sunday, April 17, 2021 to a report of a detached garage in the block of 800 Woodlawn Avenue in Des Plaines. Firefighters on arrival discovered two detached garages on fire on the Hollywood Avenue side of the block and one detached garage fire on the Woodlawn Avenue side of the block. The garages were located at the back of the property line, and there was no extension to any of the houses.




The fire was declared out by about 5:45 a.m. Initially it was unconfirmed whether all three garages were destroyed.

Power lines were down at the scene. Initially, it was unknown if the downed power lines were the cause of the fire, or a result of the fire. ComEd was on the scene immediately to shut down power, and begin work on repair and restoration of power.

ComEd report crews that responded to the scene were working to restore power to 26 customers that were affected by downed power lines. At 7:30 a.m. the estimated restoration time was 10:00 a.m.
