Police, firefighters and paramedics from Lake Zurich responded about 8:34 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2021 to a report of a crash with injuries and entrapment involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-trailer truck at Route 12 and Cuba Road at the border of Kildeer and Lake Zurich.




An 80 year-old woman was trapped in her Saturn sedan and was extricated by about 8:47 a.m. Firefighters and paramedics from Barrington and Palatine also responded to the crash. The woman was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with multiple traumatic injuries. Her condition was not initially released.

The driver of the semi-trailer truck, a male, age 43 from Robbins, did not initially report any injuries.




The initial investigation indicated that the woman was driving her Saturn eastbound on Cuba Road when she hit the rear-end of the tractor trailer, which was on Route 12 EAST traveling southeast on Rand Road. The Saturn glanced off the trailer and hit a pole off the roadway on the southwest corner of Cuba Road and Rand Road/US-12.

Southbound Rand Road/US-12 EAST was closed from Old Rand Road to an area just south of Cuba Road during rescue and the on-scene investigation, which lasted about an hour. The Speed Limit on Rand Road is 50 MPH, and the Speed Limit on Cuba Road is 35 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View images.

Initially, no citations were issued.

The crash occurred in the jurisdiction of Lake Zurich.
