Man Found Injured in Middlefork Savanna Forest Preserve After He Was Sideswiped by Metra Train on Milwaukee District – North Line

Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Lake Forest and Metra police responded about 1:42 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2022 to a report of a pedestrian hit by a train Lake Forest.




Initially, Lake Forest firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the wrong train station at 695 Western Avenue in downtown Lake Forest.

A few minutes later there was clarification that a pedestrian may have been sideswiped by a train north of the Milwaukee District – North Metra station. A conductor said a man was staggering and appeared as though his arm was dangling.

Lake Forest firefighters and paramedics were re-assigned to a location east of the Chicago Bears Headquarters at 1000 Football Drive after the injured man was located near the Milwaukee District – North railroad tracks that run through the Middlefork Savanna Forest Preserve. The stretch of railroad tracks north of the Lake Forest Milwaukee District – North Metra station is a distance of almost 2.5 miles. The precise location where the man was hit was not disclosed.




The railroad tracks are less than 70 feet east of two practice fields just east of the Walter Payton Center at Halas Hall, and about 750 feet east of the main practice fields just east of Halas Hall.

Initially, the injured man turned away from police, firefighters and paramedics attempting to help him. Rescuers eventually convinced the man to cooperated, and he walked to the ambulance by about 2:34 p.m.

Lake Forest Fire Department paramedics transported the man to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center.
