Garbage Pile Fire at Waste Management on Sumac Rd, Wheeling

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Wheeling responded about 9:11 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2021 to a report that a large pile of garbage is on fire in a transfer station building at Waste Management, 350 Sumac Road in Wheeling.

Fire command reported there may be a prolonged operation. Smoke from the fire has likely caused activation of a smoke alarm inside at least one other business on Sumac Road just north and east of Chicago Executive Airport.
