China Airlines Cargo Jet Crashes During Taxiing at O’Hare

Chicago firefighters responded just after 6:30 a.m. after cargo jet crashed into baggage carts just after 6:30 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2022. A China Airlines Boeing 747 crashed into several baggage/cargo carts while taxiing at O’Hare International Airport about 6:30 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2022.




One or two engines on the port side were damaged. A surveillance camera captured the crash and appeared to show the speed of the taxiing aircraft was too fast. Ramp personnel were in the vicinity when the crash occurred.

Initially there were no known injuries reported.

China Airlines Cargo is a member of SkyTeam Cargo, which operates a fleet of freighter aircraft, and is operated by China Airlines.

China Airlines (CAL) is the state-owned national carrier of the Republic of China (Taiwan) with headquarters in Taipei Tayouan International Airport.

China Airlines is one of two major airlines in Republic of China (Taiwan) along with EVA Air.
