Metra Train Clips Rear End of Truck’s Semi-Trailer at Rohlwing Rd in Palatine West of Arlington Park Station

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Palatine responded about 10:07 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2022 to a report that a train crashed with a semi-trailer truck at the Union Pacific Metra Northwest Line at the Rohlwing Road railroad crossing. Palatine Fire Department responded with an extrication response. Upon arrival firefighters reported the vehicle was on the south side of the railroad tracks.

Conductors immediately reported that no train passengers were injured, and then Palatine Fire Department paramedics wanted to check to see if the truck driver was injured. Paramedics couldn’t drive south across the railroad tracks for safety reasons, so they were walking toward the truck. The truck driver may have pulled his truck into the Harvest Bible lot before driving away, but some of the semi-trailer debris and a license plate were left behind.

Metra police and the Illinois State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement unit are investigating the crash.

Outbound Metra train #611 struck the semi-trailer and remained at the scene. The train departed the area around 11:30 a.m. after investigation and inspection of the train and tracks.
