Fatal Traffic Crash Involving Pedestrian at Route 60/83 and Taylor Lake Ct, Unincorporated Mundelein

On January 9, 2022, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Route 60/83 and Taylor Lake Court, Unincorporated Mundelein, for a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic crash. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found the pedestrian, a 42-year-old man of Unincorporated Mundelein, deceased.

Preliminary investigation shows the pedestrian, who was wearing dark, non-contrasting clothing, just left a bar in the area and was likely walking home. For an unknown reason, the pedestrian laid down in the southbound lane of Route 60/83. A southbound Honda Accord, driven by a 21-year-old man of Mundelein struck the pedestrian. Soon after, a southbound Nissan Murano, driven by a 34-year-old man of Volo also struck the pedestrian.

The drivers of the Honda and Nissan were uninjured.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and are in the process of scheduling an autopsy.

Sheriff’s crash investigators responded and are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit and Lake County Coroner’s Office.
