Extra Alarm Fire at Automotive Shop on Route 83 Near Grass Lake Rd, Lake Villa

Lake Villa police and firefighter and paramedics from Antioch Fire Department responded about 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2021 to a report of fire at Mr. J’s Motors at 1671 North Milwaukee Avenue in Antioch. A 9-1-1 caller claiming to be the owner said there was a fire at the business, and said he was inside the business. The 9-1-1 operator advised him to evacuate. According to Google map info there are two businesses at the building address — MMS Auto Body & Collision and Mr. J’s Motors.

Initially there were no known injuries.




Police were first on the scene and reported smoke showing. Antioch Engine 213’s crew, first on the scene by 3:15 a.m., reported smoke showing and requested a MABAS Box Alarm. Engine 213 reported a single-story automotive shop with heavy smoke and fire showing.

A MABAS Division 4 Box Alarm #21-C2 was activated about 3:16 am.

Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Bristol (Wisconsin), McHenry, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Lake Villa, Newport, Twin Lakes (Wisconsin) in tenders were assigned to the scene.

Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Beach Park, Grayslake, Pleasant Prairie and Waukegan were assigned Change of Quarters to stand by in Antioch fire stations.

A second alarm was activated for tenders at 3:29 a.m. and firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Richmond and Wauconda were assigned to the scene.

By 3:31 a.m. a second alarm was activated to a full alarm. Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Gurnee, Randall (Wisconsin), Richmond, Round Lake, Spring Grove, and Wauconda were assigned to the scene.

The extra alarm was activated to a third alarm level around 3:49 a.m.

The extra alarm was activated to a fifth alarm level around 4:32 a.m.
