McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and Spring Grove police officers responded about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 to a report of a domestic battery in the block of 500 Sunrise Drive in Spring Grove. Upon arrival of law enforcement officers, a 25 year-old female victim was discovered stabbed and beaten.
Police also located Alexander Campos, of McHenry, inside the home on Sunrise Drive, and then discovered there was a fire in the home. Police learned that Alexander Campos, age 25 was the female victim’s boyfriend, who was identified as a suspect at the scene.
McHenry Fire Department firefighters were dispatched, where the home is located in a neighborhood with no fire hydrants.
A MABAS Division 5 Box Alarm #5-1272 was activated by McHenry Fire Department at 10:24 p.m. The Box Alarm called for fire engines, a ladder truck and tenders (tanker) because of the lack of hydrants in the neighborhood. After the fire was extinguished, the home was uninhabitable, according to fire officials.
Firefighters, paramedics, and/or command officers from Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Nunda, Richmond, Spring Grove, Wauconda, and Wonder Lake were assigned to cover McHenry fire stations. Tenders (tankers) were assigned to bring water to the scene.
Firefighters, paramedics, and/or command officers from Cary, Huntley, Lake Villa, Marengo, and Round Lake were assigned to cover McHenry fire stations.
The female victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries initially assessed to be non-life threatening. One firefighter was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
Alexander Campos was arrested at the scene and was charged with attempted first-degree murder and other charges. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
