Police and firefighter/paramedics from Des Plaines responded about 6:36 qm., 2021 to a report of someone with trouble breathing in the block of 0-99 North East River Road in Des Plaines. North Maine Engine 1’s crew on arrival reported fire showing from the house, and that they were suiting up and going in by about 6:41 a.m.
Firefighters had a 9-1-1 report from someone inside the house that there was one person in the house. Engine 1’s crew reported fire on the first floor extending to the second floor. Firefighters used a ground ladder to get to the second floor. The condition of the victim in the house was initially not available.
The fire was showing out the front of the split-level home located on East River Road just north of Golf Road. With a confirmed victim inside the second floor of the house, fire command requested a Box Alarm.
A MABAS Division 3 Box Alarm was activated at 6:47 a.m.
East River Road was immediately shut down for hoses going across the road to fire hydrants.
The MABAS Box Alarm was struck out at 7:08 a.m.
Wind was from the west at 10 MPH with an air temperature of 20°F and a Wind Chill of 9°F. The Air Quality Index in Chicago was 48 (PM2.5) in Chicago and 41 (PM2.5) at 7:30 a.m. and early Wednesday morning.
