Man Dead, Woman Wounded in Shooting and Crash at Vine St and Oakland Dr, Streamwood

Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Streamwood responded about 5:37 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2021 to a report of a crash with injuries at Vine Street and Oakland Drive in Streamwood. Upon arrival police and firefighters discovered a car with minor damage on the lawn up against a tree with reported minor damage. One person was down on the ground, and paramedics rush to help the victim on the ground.




Paramedics immediately reported they discovered a gunshot victim at the scene. Two additional ambulances were assigned to the scene, and police secured the scene while paramedics removed the victims, administered treatment, and transported two victims to area hospitals.

A male adult identified as Gabriel Herrera of Roselle was found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Amita St. Alexius Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A female adult was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening.

A third patient was assessed and was declared a non-transport.




The shooting and crash incident is being investigated as a homicide and aggravated battery. The preliminary investigation indicates that the two shooting victims were inside the vehicle when they were shot. After the shootings, the vehicle traveled a short distance onto a lawn and crashed into a tree.

Streamwood Police Department detectives and the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) collected evidence and investigated at the scene, and are continuing the investigation of the shooting and crash.

Streamwood Police Department on Thursday, December 16, 2021 described the shooting as an isolated incident with no threat to the public.
