Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 2:49 a.m. Thursday, December 16, 2021 to a report of a crash with possible injuries at Euclid Avenue and Highland Avenue in Arlington Heights. Arlington Heights police found a woman asleep at the wheel of a car that had crashed into a tree. Police were able to awaken her, but when she woke up she attempted to put her vehicle in gear, and appeared to be attempting to drive away. She was also observed to have signs of having consumed alcohol. Police were able to stop her from driving away.

While police attempted to remove her from the crashed vehicle, the female driver resisted the police officers and became combative, according to the police report. Wearing shoes with boot style heels, she kicked three police officers. One officer was kicked in the inner and outer thigh area; one officer was kicked in the leg and hand, which caused a wrist strain and thumb laceration; and one officer was kicked and scraped in the knee. Initially, none of the police officers required medical attention at a hospital.

The female driver, identified as Jessica Medrano, refused medical treatment by paramedics, and refused transportation to a hospital. Police arrested 26 year-old Jessica Medrano about 3:02 a.m., and transported her in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters.

Jessica I. Medrano was charged with …

Allegedly, police also discovered adult use of cannabis in the passenger area of the motor vehicle.

Medrano was also operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Jessica Medrano’s vehicle was towed to a police holding area.

Medrano’s court date was not initially released, but she is scheduled at Cook County Rolling Meadows Circuit Court.
