Schaumburg Police Arrest Suspect in Chicago Connected to Death Investigation at Hotel on American Lane

On Friday, November 19, 2021, at 11:33 a.m., Schaumburg police, firefighters and paramedics responded to the Extended Stay – Chicago – Woodfield Mall, 1200 East American Lane, in response to a 911 call for help regarding an unresponsive person. Upon arrival of emergency personnel, the body of a female adult victim was discovered and determined to be deceased by Schaumburg Fire Department paramedics. A crime scene was immediately declared.




The victim was identified as Susan J. Tobey, 28 years of age from the 6000 block of Interstate Avenue, Portland, Oregon. The victim was transported to Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, which determined the cause of death to be from injuries due to blunt force trauma.

On Sunday, November 21, 2021, the Schaumburg Police executed a warrant at the Chicago, Illinois residence of a 23- year-old suspect who was taken into custody without incident.

The Schaumburg Police Investigations Division is continuing to investigate.
