— NWS Chicago

Expansive surface high pressure from the Gulf Coast to the northeast United States will block off any moisture return, so we’ll just see the benefits of the warm advection. This will occur as a unseasonably strong 500 mb ridge (150-200m positive height anomaly) advances eastward. Westerly warm advection will warm 925 mb temps today to the high positive single digits °C and stronger southwesterly warm advection on Sunday will bump 925 mb temps up into the lower teens °C. A narrow plume of mid-level and high cirrus clouds overhead early this morning will exit eastward by the mid morning, yielding nearly full sun for peak heating. Climatology of forcasted 925 mb temps today supports mid- upper 50s highs, locally 60°F in northwest/north central Illinois.

After a milder night (36-44°F, warmest downtown Chicago) tonight, Sunday`s 925 mb climatology suggests mid-60s highs. Forecast soundings do point toward possibly thicker cirrus. Given the dry antecedent conditions and blocked moisture return, leaned drier on dew points. This ingredient and steady to breezy southwest winds does point toward potential for overperforming high temps both days this weekend, which certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing. If the high clouds aren’t much of an issue on Sunday, could see at least scattered upper 60s readings.

Don’t forget to set those clocks back tonight!

DEW

Maybe damp grass, no dew on vehicles. Dew Point depression was at least 8, 9 or 10°F overnight.

Weather Radar in northeast Illinois was clear all morning.
