Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 31. West wind around 10 mph.

Subtle shortwave trough over the central High Plains early this morning will shear eastward, reaching Illinois later this afternoon. Only impact in Chicagoland should be an extensive mid-high level broken overcast cloud deck spreading in later this morning and lingering into the afternoon (11a to 5p) before clearing from the north during the evening as shortwave continues east out of the area. Stronger forcing with this shortwave looks to remain south of Chicagoland, so the expectation (and forecast) will be for no precipitation in our area with this wave. However, there still might be a sprinkle or even a couple graupel pellets across far southern Chicagoland this afternoon. More likely scenario is just virga (precipitation that evaporates before hitting the ground).
Another seasonably cold night is on tap for tonight, according to the NWS Chicago office. All indications are that cloudiness will clear southern Chicagoland this evening, setting the stage for freezing temperatures throughout all of Chicagoland (north and south) tonight with the only possible exception being downtown Chicago. So far Monday morning, the NWS Chicago office decided not to issue a freeze warning for tonight with this forecast issuance. Freeze warnings or headlines could be published later today for overnight Monday to Tuesday. Freeze headlines may be ended for the season after this morning`s chilly lows or tomorrow’s freeze. Either way it looks like the 2021 growing season is ending by Tuesday this week.
Very light dew with very light frost on vehicles and vegetation.
Weather Radar in northeast Illinois was clear, except for some spotty precipitation near Ottawa and Kankakee at 8:00 a.m.
