Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Buffalo Grove responded about 3:32 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2021 to a report of a natural gas leak at Lake Cook Road and Weiland Road Buffalo Grove.
Firefighters received a call of a gas odor, and a short time later a construction crew reported they hit a gas line near the intersection.
Wheeling firefighters are assisting Buffalo Grove firefighters at the scene.
The intersection was immediately closed to all traffic and Lake Cook Road is closed in both directions. Weiland Road was backed up to a about Pauline.
REPAIR TIME ESTIMATE …
The gas line repairs may take another three or four hours to complete, which may affect traffic and road closures until about 7:40 p.m. or 8:40 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2021.
Buffalo Grove fire command indicated winds were from the southwest.
The National Weather Service at Chicago Executive Airport reported winds from the south 8 MPH at 2:52 p.m.
The National Weather Service at O’Hare International Airport reported winds from the south at 7 MPH at 2:51 p.m.
Some business may have been evacuated near the gas leak. Firefighters were evaluating the gas levels at several businesses.
There was also a crash with injuries near Binny’s Beverage Depot at the northeast corner of the intersection in Wheeling. There was also a report of a fight at the scene of the crash — possibly related to the crash. There was a report of an injured battery victim at the scene.
