The upper-level trough and associated surface low continue to push by the area this morning. A cold front pushed through the area yesterday evening, but a second frontal boundary will move through the area this afternoon and bring with it the chance for some additional showers. Highest chances for showers will be along the Illinois-Wisconsin border and along the lake shore, inland areas are expected to remain dry. Winds will turn from westerly to northwesterly behind the front and remain breezy with sustain winds of 10 to 15 mph and gusts upwards of 20 mph.
Once the front clears, cooler temperatures make a return to the area with highs for today and tomorrow topping out in the mid to upper 50s. Lows tonight will be chilly with temperatures dipping into the mid to upper 30s north and west of Arlington Heights and low to mid-40s near the lake and south of I-55. These temperatures along with a moist lower atmosphere and light winds will pose a threat for some patchy frost in north central Illinois. — NWS Chicago
