Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives on Monday, September 20, 2021, conducted a search warrant at a registered sexual predator’s home. The search warrant was obtained after detectives received information the man was attempting to lure an out of state child to his home in the block of 500 Rockland Road, unincorporated Lake Bluff.

Earlier this year, Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives were contacted by Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office (North Carolina) because a parent of a 12-year-old boy who resides in North Carolina made a police report with them. The parent located concerning text messages and TikTok messages, which were found to have been sent by Jason M. Silsdorf, 36, of the above address, to their son. The text messages indicated Silsdorf was making arrangements with the child to travel to his unincorporated Lake Bluff residence.

Further investigation revealed Silsdorf purchased a bus ticket and emailed it to the boy. The ticket was intended for the boy to take the bus from a bus station near his house to Chicago, where Silsdorf was going to meet him and drive him to Silsdorf’s home.

Being a registered sexual predator, Silsdorf is required to disclose all of his social media accounts and telephone numbers while conducting his annual registrations with the Lake County Sheriff’s office. Detectives discovered Silsdorf was utilizing social media accounts and a telephone number that he had not disclosed.

After reviewing the facts and circumstances of the case, on Thursday, September 16, 2021, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office drafted an arrest warrant for Silsdorf for:

Luring (class 2 felony)

Unlawful Failure of a Sexual Offender to Report an Internet Site (class 2 felony)

On Friday, September 17, 2021, a sheriff’s detective presented the information to a Lake County Judge who approved the arrest warrant, setting bond at $3,000,000.00. The Judge also authorized a search warrant for Silsdorf’s residence.

Silsdorf was arrested without incident at his residence this morning. Several electronic items were seized by detectives and will be further examined. Silsdorf remains held in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing.

“The internet is a very easy place for predators to hide. Any parent would be shocked to learn their child is engaging in communication with a sexual predator, but it happens far too often. Thankfully, in this case, an alert parent found concerning messages before their child boarded a bus out of state. Please always monitor your children’s online communications.”

— Sheriff John D. Idleburg

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
