Dog Dies in House Fire on Liberty Lakes Blvd Near Sweet Clover Way in Wauconda

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Wauconda responded about 2:48 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2021 to a report of a house fire in the block of 2800 Liberty Lakes Boulevard in Wauconda. A passerby saw smoke coming from a 2-story single family house and called 9-1-1.




Firefighters on arrival by about 1:55 p.m. reported smoke showing from the vents and eaves of the roof of the home. Firefighters forced entry for an interior attack with a hose line and discovered smoke coming from the basement. Two additional lines were for a total of three lines were used to extinguish a basement fire.

Neighbors told firefighters that the residents were not home. Firefighters made a search of the home to confirm that no residents were inside, and found that a dog had died in the fire.




A MABAS Division 4 Box Alarm #34-C1 was activated at 3:02 p.m. Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Barrington, Countryside, Fox Lake, Lake Zurich, Long Grove, McHenry, and Mundelein were assigned to the fire scene.

Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Barrington-Countryside, Fox River Grove, Spring Grove, and Woodstock were assigned to stand by in Wauconda fire stations to cover the community in case of additional emergency calls.

The fire, which caused an estimated $400,000 was declared out by about 3:30 p.m.

A dog died in a Wauconda house fire Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was reported to 911 at 2:48 p.m. on the 2800 block of Liberty Lakes Drive, according to a news release from the Wauconda Fire District.

The first firefighters to arrive saw smoke coming from the eaves and vents of the house. The fire was located in the basement and was brought under control in 40 minutes, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
