Police and firefighter/paramedics from Buffalo Grove responded about 9:06 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 2021 to a report of fight with a battery victim at Astoria Banquets, 1375 West Dundee Road in Buffalo Grove.
Several police squads from Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights and Palatine responded to a report of at least 20 people physically fighting inside the Astoria Banquets facility. Paramedics did not transport anyone because injured people at the wedding refused medical transportation by paramedics.
A witness inside the banquet facility said several people were injured and bleeding from the mouth or had swollen faces and heads. The witness said the fight started when a younger woman — possibly in her low 20s — pushed an older woman. A male confronted the younger woman to tell her to be more careful and not treat an older woman that way. With some foul language the younger woman said she didn’t care about the older woman. The younger woman charged toward the male, and the larger male choked her to restrain her, according to the witness. Next a large, packed crowd was involved, throwing punches. The younger woman was not initially arrested and was still yelling over an hour after the initial fight.
The preacher tried to get people to calm down, according to the witness. Some items may have been damaged in the banquet hall, but no serious injuries were reported.
