Illinois State Police responded to a crash with an armed robbery about 12:19 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021 on I-290 EAST at Canal Street in Chicago.
Police received a report that the victim was involved in a property damage crash with the suspects’ black SUV. Immediately after the crash, three male/black subjects wearing ski mask robbed the victim, taking a cell phone and a wallet. Each of the three offenders were armed with a handgun.
The three suspects in the black SUV turned around on I-290 and were last seen westbound on I-290 from the scene at Canal Street in Chicago.
Initially it was not confirmed whether the crash was intentional for the purpose of committing a robbery.
