One Shot, 2 Grazed at 2 Gatherings, Shooting Scenes in Elgin

Police and firefighters from Elgin responded about 12:09 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2021 to a report of a shooting in the block of 500 South Grace Street in Elgin.

Elgin police discovered a male juvenile with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital with injuries that are initially believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.




Preliminary information received by investigators was that a gathering was taking place and subsequently when the juvenile male victim was struck by gunfire.

At 1:33 a.m., officers were notified by a adult male subject, who had been at the shooting scene but relocated to South Elgin. He stated that he was at the location of Grace Street and left the area, but noticed his vehicle was damaged from gunfire, and that he had also sustained a minor graze wound. The adult male was treated and released on scene by the South Elgin Fire Department.




In another shooting incident, Elgin police responded about 1:09 a.m. Monday to the block of 1500 Meyer Street for a report of shots fired at a large gathering. Upon arrival, police discovered an adult female victim with a minor graze wound. The victim was treated and released on scene by Elgin Fire Department paramedics.

Initially police did not recognize a connection involving the two incidents. Detectives from the Special Investigations Group are actively investigating. The two shooting scenes are located about 3 miles apart.
