Suspect Arrested in February 2021 Marengo Shell Gas Station Shooting, Robbery

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and federal law enforcement authorities arrested a 26-year-old male suspect from Chicago Monday, May 17, 2021 connecting him to a shooting and robbery on February 24, 2021 at a Marengo Circle K convenience store. that left an employee with injuries that were not life-threatening.




Marengo Police Department announced the arrest of Antonio Pedrote, of the block of 3300 West 23rd Street in Chicago, on suspicion of armed robbery with a firearm, and armed violence/category I weapon (both Class X felonies) and aggravated battery/public place (a Class 3 felony). Pedrote was arrested in Chicago by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Apprehension Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Task Force.

Antonio Pedrote — “Suspect #2” of two suspects — was transported to the McHenry County Jail, where he was being held on a $500,000 bail bond on the felony allegations. He is likely on hold for another agency as well.

Pedrote’s next court date is May 20, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. in Court Room 302.

The investigation into the robbery is ongoing, and multiple state and federal agencies are involved, according to the Marengo Police Department. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF); McHenry police; Aurora Police Department; Naperville Police Department; Downers Grove Police Department; the Cook County Sheriff’s Office; the FBI; the Illinois Department of Corrections, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Marshalls have worked on the case. The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office is also working on the case.




In February 2021 Aurora Police Department linked two male suspects wanted in the shooting of a Marengo gas station clerk during an armed robbery Wednesday, February 24, 2021 to three convenience store robberies that occurred in Aurora.

The three robberies at convenience stores in Aurora, Illinois occurred during the same week on three different days …

Monday, February 22 about 7:30 p.m. in the block of 100 South Broadway,

Tuesday, February 23 about 8:45 p.m. also in the block of 100 South Broadway, and

Thursday, February 25 9:55 p.m. in the block of 200 South Lake Street.




Marengo, located in McHenry County; and Aurora, located in Kane County are about 45 miles apart along US 20 and Route 47.

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Marengo responded about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2021 to a report of a shooting related to an armed robbery at the Circle K Shell gas station, 600 North State Street (Illinois Route 23) in Marengo.

Upon arrival police officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim, Brian Pemble, is a 35 year-old male, who was on-duty as a gas station clerk — his second job. Police secured the scene, and paramedic treated the victim. Brian Pemble was flown by a medical transport helicopter to Mercyhealth Javon Bea a Hospital in Rockford, where he was initially listed in “stable” condition.

Pemble, a father of five, is recovering at home. A gofundme account “Brian’s Robbery Recovery” to raise money to pay medical bills and cover income lost is established by Brian’s wife Melissa. An amount of over $10,000 was raised by 162 donors by Saturday afternoon, February 27, 2021.

Police learned that two male/Hispanic suspects age 25-35 entered the gas station store to rob the store. Their visual descriptions were verified by video surveillance images.

Suspect #1 was described as a male Hispanic, 25-35 years old, approximately 5’4” to 5’5” tall, with tattoo or mark on the suspect’s right cheek, wearing a black hoodie with the text “DUCKIN BAD VIBES” on the chest and armed with a handgun.

Suspect #2 was described as a male Hispanic, 25-35 years old, approximately 5’8” to 6’1” tall, wearing a black jacket, with a stripe on the shoulder and an unidentified white logo on the right chest, with black jeans, tan boots and armed with a handgun.

The Shell gas station is located at the western end (terminus) of Route 176 at Route 23.
