Garage Fire Spreads to House and House Across the Street on Chestnut Dr, Wonder Lake

Wonder Lake Fire Protection District firefighters and Wonder Lake police officers responded about 4:31 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 to a report of a detached detached garage fire in the block of 2900 East Chestnut Drive in Wonder Lake.

The fire spread from the detached garage spread to the house, and heat from the fire ignited some trees, where a burning tree branch fell down on the house across the street. The burning branch that fell then ignited the house across the street.

A MABAS Division 5 Box Alarm #5-1670 to the Second Level was activated at 4:42 PM.

Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Algonquin, Bloomfield (WI) Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Fox River Grove, Harvard, Hebron, McHenry, Linn (WI), Nunda Rural FPD, Randall (WI), Richmond, Spring Grove, Twin Lakes (WI), Union, Wauconda, Woodstock were assigned mutual aid to the scene.

Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Antioch, Cary, and Marengo were assigned mutual aid to standby at a Wonder Lake fire station.

Initially no injuries were reported.

The house and detached garage at the original site of the fire were severely damaged, and the house was declared uninhabitable. Two antique cars, antique motorcycles, and two boats destroyed were destroyed with the detached garage.

The house across the street was not declared uninhabitable.

All fires were under control by about 5:15 p.m.

The fire is under investigation and the cause was initially unknown.
