Apartment Fire Behind a Wall Near Fireplace on Rand Rd Palatine

Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Palatine responded about 9:35 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021 to a report of a fire behind a wall at an apartment at 2058 North Rand Road in Palatine.

Engine 82’s crew reported smoke showing from the chimney and was out investigating by 9:39 a.m. The fire call was also upgraded to a “Working Fire” by 9:39 a.m.




Interior firefighters discovered a smoldering fire in the wall connected to a fire that was burning in a fireplace.

Firefighters did not expect additional crews, and fire command began to release some extra firefighters by about 9:45 p.m.

The fire was declared out by 9:45 p.m. but firefighters raised the aerial ladder to the roof after 9:45 p.m. to inspect the area for heat or fire extension.
