Mundelein Boy, Age 16, Dies of Complications of Neck Wound Over 18 Months After Shooting

Carys Castillo, a 16-year-old boy who was wounded in a shooting on September 28, 2019 in a Mundelein apartment has died from his injuries. Following an autopsy, The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a homicide.

Carys Castillo was pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m. Friday, April 16 at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago , according to the Cook County medical examiner’s.




Carys Castillo was shot in the neck on Saturday, September 28, 2019 in the 200 block of Longwood Terrace. Mundelein police said the teen was found in an apartment, and that witnesses initially provided police officers with conflicting statements.

Autopsy results indicated Castillo died of complications from his gunshot wound in the neck, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
