Elmhurst University students were alerted about 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2021 to shelter in place after a person with a gun was reported on campus. Students and staff were initially alerted that a person with gun was reported near Dinkmeyer Residence Hall, then they were alerted at 4:05 p.m. Niebuhr. “Seek shelter in locked room. Remain in place until ALL CLEAR. Police on scene,” according to the 4:05 p.m. alert.
Initially there were no reports of shots fired.
A 4:17 p.m. update stated, “Police activity on E U campus. Police/Public Safety continue to search the campus area. Remain in lockdown until ALL CLEAR is given.”
PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATE …
On April 28, 2021, at 3:30 p.m., Elmhurst police responded to a single report of a man with a gun at Elmhurst University, 190 Prospect Ave. The campus was placed on lockdown while police and university public safety conducted a systematic search of the campus. No suspect in this incident was located and the University lifted the lockdown and resumed normal operations at 6:00 p.m. This incident remains under investigation by Elmhurst Police and Elmhurst University Public Safety.
