Arson Investigation

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Newport Fire Protection District firefighters responded about 9:01 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2021 to a report of a barn fire in the block of 14700 West Kazmer Road in Wadsworth.

Upon arrival, Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Newport Township firefighters discovered a fully-involved barn fire.

Firefighter operations were defensive as the fire was already burning the structure to its destruction. The barn was a vacant structure, and no injuries or harm to any animals were reported.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is working with the Newport Fire Protection District to investigate the fire and suspicious circumstances connected to the possible arson fire. There was a suspicious vehicle reportedly seen in the area around the time of the fire. Also, there was no electricity connected to the barn.

Anyone with information about the suspicious fire incident is urged to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Technicians at 847-377-4250.
