A bystander began CPR, and a Crystal Lake police officer joined to assist with CPR for one of the victims until paramedics from the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District took over with Advanced Life Support. A LifeNet medical helicopter crew was alerted to stand by, but Incident Command assigned two rescue ambulances for ground transportation for two victims.

The motorcyclist in traumatic cardiac arrest was transported by rescue ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the motorcyclist that was killed was not initially released pending notification to his family.

Another motorcyclist was transported by rescue ambulance to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening. He was treated and released from the hospital. The two other motorcyclists involved in the crash did not report any injuries that required transportation to a hospital by paramedics. All four of the crashed motorcycles were damaged.

The initial police investigation determined that four motorcyclists among a group of seven motorcyclists crashed while traveling northwest on Virginia Road near Pingree Road, which splits off northbound near the scene of the crash. One of the motorcyclists lost control, which resulted in collisions involving the three other motorcyclists.

Initially no charges were filed, and the investigation of the crash is ongoing by the Lake in the Hills Police Department.
