Village of Arlington Heights Website Failure

The Village of Arlington Heights announced at 7:51 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2021 that the official website for the village (vah.com) was down with “technical difficulties.” The Village of Arlington Heights website vendor is CivicLive by Intrado Corporation, which is experiencing difficulties with several other municipalities the company serves.

“We are experiencing technical difficulties with the Village of Arlington Website, vah.com. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please do not hesitate to email Village staff or call the Village at 847-368-5000 for any assistance you may need.”

The website vendor for the official Arlington Heights event, shopping and service directory for the Village of Arlington Heights “Discover Arlington” is also unavailable. CivicLive is also the vendor for the Discover Arlington website (DiscoverArlington.com).

CivicLive is also the website vendor for Arlington, Texas; Aurora, Colorado; Davenport, Iowa; Columbia Tennessee; Hamilton County, Ohio; Rocky Mount, North Carolina; Sierra Madre, California; Blind River, Ontario; and Clearfield City, Utah.

“We’re still working to resolve the server issues impacting the City’s website, arlingtontx.gov. Our staff is working with the vendor to find a solution as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience.”

Most of these communities had the same “Technical Difficulties” message, except for Hamilton County’s government, which created a temporary page to provide continuity with online service, such as water bill payment service, official social media links, and other third party assets that were still functioning. The Arlington, Texas website returned: “This site can’t be reachedCheck if there is a typo in www.arlingtontx.gov.
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN”

Around 2017, the Village of Arlington Heights dismissed American Eagle — a company with a larger portfolio of government and corporate websites. CivicLive was chosen instead of Park Ridge-based American Eagle, which had served as web vendor for the Village of Arlington Heights since 2009.

The Arlington Heights Park District continues to use American Eagle for the development and maintenance of the official park district website.

According to the CivicLive’s official website, Intrado Corporation is a global provider of communication and network infrastructure services with CiviLive Solutions offices in Scotts Valley, California; St. Louis Missouri; and Toronto, Ontario.

“Backed by 24x7x365 support every day of the year, and robust, secure technology, CivicLive solutions are regularly credited for helping public agencies better serve, connect and engage with their stakeholders.”

There was no word on what type of outage caused the website failures, which are on their third day of interruption on Sunday, February 7, 2021.
