Woman Found Dead After Early Morning House Fire Extinguished on Lake Shore Drive in Northeast Wonder Lake

McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and Wonder Lake firefighters and paramedics responded about 4:28 a.m. Sunday, December 27, 2020 to a report of a house fire in the block of 5700 East Lake Shore Drive in Wonder Lake. A neighbor from some distance away saw flames, and reported to 9-1-1 that the fire he saw looked like a house fire on the other side of the dam.




A McHenry County Sheriff’s deputy arrived first on the scene, and confirmed a significant house fire. Wonder Lake police also responded to the scene.

When firefighters arrived, flames were showing from a lower level, the first floor, the second floor and through the roof.

A 64-year-old woman, identified as Vickie I. Arnolde was found inside the home after the fire was extinguished. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, December 29, 2020, according to the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.




Firefighters from McHenry initially responded to assist Wonder Lake firefighters, but a MABAS Division 5 Box Alarm was activated by 4:44 a.m. which assigned several more fire units to the scene.

Firefighters and/or command officers from Fox Lake, Huntley Wauconda, Nunda, Twin Lakes, Harvard, Woodstock, Crystal Lake responded for mutual aid assistance at the scene.

Firefighters and/or command officers from Antioch, Cary and Marengo protected the rest of Wonder Lake while firefighters on scene extinguished the house fire.

The MABAS Box Alarm was struck out at about 6:14 a.m.
