Two police officers were shot after midnight on Friday, November 6, 2020 in Delafield, Wisconsin at or near a Holiday Inn near Highway 83 and Golf Road after they responded to a report of a hit-and-run crash. The Holiday Inn Express is located at the northeast corner of the interchange at I-94 and Wisconsin Highway 83.
A police officer called out for backup and assistance on police radio about 2:05 a.m., reporting that shots had been fired and that he had been wounded at the Holiday Inn Express, 3030 Golf Road in Delafield. Two police officers were wounded — one each from the Hartland Police Department and the Delafield Police Department. Both were transported to a hospital with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening.
The suspect fled the scene, and is described as a male/white wearing khaki pants. Police said there is a ‘tremendous number of resources’ searching for the suspect, and citizens are being asked to stay away from the area and stay home.
There was an active scene into the morning (after sunrise) at Highway 83 and Golf Road in Delafield. Crime scene tape and police activity was observed at the Holiday Inn Express at Highway 83 and Golf Road.
DOT issued an alert around 2:15 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020 for a traffic incident that closed I-94 in both directions. I-94 was closed between Meadowbrook Road and Cushing Park Road — a distance of over 6 miles along I-94.
Around 4:16 a.m., Delafield residents had been sent an automatic alert by authorities that asked citizens to shelter in place and avoid the area of Highway 83 and Golf Road. The shelter in place included advice to shelter at the lowest level of their home or business — apparently to prevent injuries to innocent residents from potential crossfire involving police and the suspect.
