A male suspect from Palatine is accused of sexually abusing two girls during years ranging from 2010 to 2016, according to prosecutors. The alleged criminal sexual abuse took place in Mount Prospect and Palatine.

Edison Banares, age 72, is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

According to prosecutors, one of the girls said she was 9 years-old when Edison Banares first abused her between November 2010 and July 2011. September 2020 the girl, who is now a teenager, wrote her mother in a note disclosing the abuse, according to Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Nicole Murphy.

The second girl subsequently reported that Banares had abused her when she was 4 to 7 years old, according to Murphy. According to the girl, the criminal sexual abuse continued until 2016.

Edison Banares was ordered held on $200,000 total bond Thursday, November 12, 2020. Cook County Judge Ellen Mandeltort ordered that Edison Banares have no contact with his accusers or anyone younger than 18. He next appears in Cook County Court on Friday, December 4, 2020.

If convicted of the most serious crime, Edison Banares could face up to 30 years in prison.
