A 20-year-old woman from Mexico was shot and killed on Friday, October 2, 2020 in Mexico, when a loaded gun, apparently used as a prop, fired while a fake video of “her kidnapping” was being produced for TikTok.

At least 10 people were nearby at an outdoor scene when Areline Martinez, who was bound and tied to a chair, began struggling with her fake captors. A .45-caliber handgun fired off a round, striking Martinez in the head and killing her instantly, according to a Mexico News Daily article. The death occurred in the city of Chihuahua.

Two males at the scene fled in a Jeep Grand Cherokee immediately following the fatal mishap, according to authorities. Police have identified the two men but did not initially have them in custody.

It was unclear whether the gun used as a prop on the mother of a 1 year-old child was accidentally loaded, but police are investigating.

Her public Instagram header declared “nunca triste, siempre loca” (“Never sad, always crazy”).
