A Chicago resident was arrested and charged with first-degree murder charges after a shooting a father of five in Waukegan (Dana Rebik/WGN News).
Waukegan police responded about 11:50 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2020 to a report of shots fired, and then a man down in the street near 8th Street and Jackson Street in Waukegan.
Police found Dwayne Young, age 38, mortally wounded. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
With the help of neighborhood witnesses, early investigation indicated that Dwayne Young accidentally rear-ended a maroon sedan with his white SUV. A suspect got out of the maroon sedan and shot Dwayne Young. Witnesses heard seven or eight shots fired.
Waukegan police investigated leads and apprehended Sheldon Brown, age 33, of Chicago, who was arrested Saturday, October 10, 2020 in Waukegan, according the Waukegan Police Department. Police said they recovered a .40-caliber pistol used in the shooting, which is considered initially as a road rage incident.
Sheldon Brown’s bail was set at $3 million. His next scheduled appearance in Lake County Court is today, Wednesday, October 14, 2020.
According to WGN’s Dana Rebik, Dwayne Young’s son, Dwayne Young Jr. has a daughter due in about three weeks. “When I told my dad, he was so excited,” Dwayne Young Jr. said. “It was going to be his first granddaughter.” Dwayne Young and his wife Carolyn raised five children.
